The work investigates how the Covid-19 outbreak affects the demand for electronic news before and during the lockdown in New Bussa, a major town in Niger State, one of Nigeria’s 36 political subdivisions. It also explores the adoption of social media channels in disseminating news related to the pandemic. The questionnaire on Google form was distributed to the residents of the town to which 150 of them responded. The results, among others, show that even though there was a higher demand for news in the thick of the pandemic, it was not significant. This outcome does not align with the previous findings that found demand significantly risen in a similar situation. What is more, this finding brings a rethinking of the classical conditioning theory to the table

The aim of this research was to determine whether or not a change in standard cost will improve the financial standing of a sample of Nigerian food and beverage manufacturers. This goal was reached by analyzing the relationship between the price of raw materials, the price of labor, and the price of manufacturing overhead on the bottom line of Nigerian food and beverage firms. Five manufacturing firms were chosen at random for the research. Nestle Plc, Cadbury Nig Plc, P.Z. Cussons Nig. Plc, and Presco Nig. Plc are the food and beverage companies that were included in the survey. In this case, we used secondary data that we had gathered over the previous decade (2010-2020). Panel estimation methods (pooled OLS, fixed effect estimation, and random effect) and a post estimation test were used to examine the compiled data. The results showed that a firm's performance in the manufacturing sector in Nigeria was significantly correlated with its manufacturing overhead costs, but negatively correlated with its raw material costs, and positively correlated with its labor costs. The research indicated that careful consideration of raw material costs and the maintenance of effective standard costing across all labor costs were necessary to obtain the desired results. Because of the significant savings in time and money that may be achieved via the use of standard costing principles and procedures, the research concludes that all food and beverage businesses in Nigeria should do so

Electronic health (e-Health) and Mobile health (m-Health) is perceived as opportunity for patients to access their health care providers in the developing countries during coronavirus pandemic as it has been found to contribute tremendously to health care provision in the developed world even before the pandemic. This study attempts to assess how residents of developing countries annexe e-health and m-health during coronavirus outbreak. More specifically, the study analyses the demand for and adoption of electronic health in the face of coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria (a developing country) using Borgu local government, Niger state as case study. It was found that during the outbreak, residents of the local government did not significantly adopt electronic health during the pandemic majorly due to access to community health worker and cost of adopting electronic health facilities. It was recommended that government and relevant health care agencies that deal policy formulation take necessary measure to encourage wider acceptance of electronic health in Nigeria

Application of a Simple, Cost-Effective Surgical Obturator Technique in Post-Maxillectomy Rehabilitation, in a Resource–Challenged Clinical Setting

Background: Cancers of the nose and paranasal sinuses are not uncommon in our setting and most patients present very late, amplifying the challenge of post-surgical prosthodontics rehabilitation. Management of these patients require multi-disciplinary approach involving the otorhinolaryngologist, maxilla-facial surgeon, oncologist, radiotherapist, prosthodontist, psychologist and speech therapist, who may not be available in some centres in low income Countries. Availability and affordability of prosthodontic materials is another confounding factor to grapple with, in our resource-challenged hospital setting. Objective: To present a simple, innovative, very cost-effective, surgical obturator and its application technique, with good outcome, in the rehabilitation of post-maxillectomy patients in our centre.Methodology: Three patients with stage 4 sino-nasal carcinoma (T4N0M0) had total or extended total maxillectomy done. A soft, pliable polyethylene sheet, with hemi-palate shape was sutured to occlude the oro-naso-antral defect and allowed in-situ for four to eight weeks. Results: All the patients tolerated the stent very well, commenced oral feeding 24 hours after surgery, achieved reasonable speech for communication and had no challenge of regurgitation of fluid or food into the nose. Cosmetic outcome was very satisfactory. Conclusion: Absence of prosthodontist and surgical obturator materials should no longer be an excuse for failing to do a much needed surgical treatment of these cancer patients. The technique is recommended in view of the enormous cost benefit, even in centres that are financially comfortable
